In this series I document my daily journey with Tershula Kriya. This is day 37 of my 40+ day commitment to practicing the kriya.
I can feel a really big difference in myself since I started practicing Tershula Kriya 37 days ago. In fact, I feel like I’ve really been taken through the ringer. I feel stronger, more balanced, more at ease, and I’ve learned a whole lot about self love, nurturing, and gentleness.
It got me thinking about the known and recorded benefits of practicing this kriya. So I looked it up for a refresher.
Tershula Kriya balances the three gunas, which are the three “flavors” or consciousness, or how we experience our humanity.
The three “flavors” are:
Heavy, attached, slow, persistent, dull, angry and confused: called the Tamasic guna.
Royal, demanding, positive and active: called the Rajasic guna.
Angelic, peaceful, tranquil, content, graceful, honorable and disciplined: called the Sattvic guna.
It’s said to be helpful in healing phobias, especially the father phobia. I’m not sure what a father “phobia” is, but I can say that I feel at ease and at peace with my current relationship with my father. I haven’t been conscious of this healing, I just know that I feel at peace with what is, and that I don’t feel angry or victimized like I have in the past.
Tershula Kriya is called “the thunderbolt of Shiva.” Shiva is the god of destruction. He destroys and regeneration or new life follows. This is what the sickness I experienced feels like to me, as through it many old parts of me died and were released and I then felt like a new woman. I’m so glad to have had this experience as we close out this twelve month solar cycle and approach the new beginnings of spring and the sun entering Aries.
