How to get out of a writers block

Trying to get out that daily article on Steemit but just can’t figure out what to write about? Writer’s block can happen to anyone, but the good news is there are things you can do to get going again. Here are some of the tricks I use when my creativity seems to be dried up.

Use automatic writing

It’s one of my favorite tricks, start writing words without thinking about what you write. You empty your mind (even more) and let it act. After a while your brain, which has great fondness for logic, begins to thread thoughts by itself.

In case the blockage is so acute that you can not even think of that first word to start there are content generators you can find in Google that can get you started.

Mentally review the story

What did you want to write when you started? What topics did you want to address? Many times one loses sight of the initial goal, dragged by history itself.

Stop and think again about what about idea you “fell in love” with in the first place, and if what you fail is the initial idea, think about what you would like to write abstractly and write it down. Little by little, it will take a more concrete form.

Do not feel scruples about leaving blank areas

If you have reached a point where you do not know what the next scene will be, do not be afraid to jump forward and continue the story at another point. You’ll already think about that intermediate part later on, or maybe you’ll discover that you were really stuck because it was totally dispensable.

And the same thing happens if what blocks you is the initial phrase. Start in the middle if necessary, but start.

Go for a walk

Change the scenery, get fresh air and try to relax for a while. Sometimes thinking about something else for a while will help you come back with a fresh perspective. A nice nap or bath can do the trick as well.

Change of activity

When you are doing another activity your main focus will change, but your subconscious mind will still work on your text and sometimes ideas will pop up like this. It sounds strange but I have many times experienced just stepping away from a text or problem, gone to bed and dreamt up the solution ready to go in the morning!

Read a book, watch a movie

Let your imagination fly guided by others, creativity is contagious. Look at what others have done and it can spark your creative center giving you a flood of ideas.

These were some of the tricks I have used for taking care of writer’s block. What have you used? What ar your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below.
