For every 100 people who call 911, 66 will wait more than 5 minutes for a response. 36.4 will wait more than 10 minutes. In poor neighborhoods, in minority neighborhoods, in neighborhoods with high crime, the wait times can be even longer.
This is a problem, because the average assault only takes 90 seconds. Even burglaries only last an average of 10 minutes. That means that if you call 911, police probably aren’t going to arrive until after the crime is over.
And the problems with relying on a State monopoly go beyond long wait times. Stories of police abuse and even fabrication of evidence are sadly common. Stories of people calling 911 for help, and ending up being ticketed for selling raw milk or grilling in the wrong place, are recorded every day.
This isn’t to say that all police officers are bad people. They’re not. But 911 is like any other state-enforced monopoly, from Soviet food production to currency creation. Each of these programs did produce some good. But they were also inefficient, slow, and suffered from abuse.
That’s why we built Peacekeeper. Peacekeeper is a private, community-based alternative to 911.
Peacekeeper enables community protection beyond the state. Our app lets you build a voluntary network of friends, family, and neighbors that can rely on each other in an emergency. These networks can be faster and more humane than calling 911.
If you don’t want to wait on a failed state-enforced system for protection, Peacekeeper is the world’s first alternative. It’s the Bitcoin of emergency response: a fast, humane, market-based alternative to the failed state monopoly.
To get started, download the app and share it with interested friends and neighbors. Set up your Emergency Response Group. When one person has an emergency—whether they’ve got an intruder in the house or they just had a heart attack and need CPR—they can send out an alert to their ERG. Friends and neighbors can show up in minutes or even seconds.
Your ERG is completely voluntary—everyone is on there because they want to be. It’s community-based. Everyone knows each other, so you avoid the potentially lethal problem of injecting armed strangers into a crime scene. And your ERG can come help from across the street, instead of trying to get there across town. That means Peacekeeper can be lightning fast.
Peacekeeper is about giving you the tools to move beyond a failed, bureaucratic, and too often abusive system—and into something else. It’s about empowering you to handle emergencies on your own and with your network, instead of being dependent on the State.
